So I'm trying to convert a ton of my star wars game cutscenes to divx. There are ones with the extension .san (smush animation) and I can't convert them. I don't want to do screen captures because they're not that sharp compared to a direct conversion. I know about rad video tools and have used them to convert other star wars game clips to divx. But this type won't convert.

Anyone have a solution??? I could output it to my vcr and then dub it back on my wintv pvr250 but I'd prefer to avoid doing it twice in realtime.

    Suggestions???

Thanks. I'm not sure which clip this is but here's one of the files.

    longtime.san

I posted at a star wars forum and was told its pretty much impossible since these are embedded in the code and not run by a seperate video program like bink or smacker.

Oh ok. I figured since it was for gaming I'd leave it OT.

    BUMP

So I was wondering if anyone knew of a converter for the Lucasarts .SAN files?????

My alternate plan is to use my video out on my video card and output it to my vcr to cap it then dub it back.

Another forum suggested I route it back directly to my capture card (wintv pvr 250). I'd like to do that but I was worried about audio feedback. BUT the wintv pvr 250 has its own audio input so I guess that wouldn't be too bad.

But what about system strain?? I'm running a 2.66ghz celeron with 512mb ram. If I run my recording software and then play my game at full screen while capping in dvd mode would that be too much????

    Thanks for any tips.

  8. what do you use to open the san file

you could try using a screen capture program such as camtasia to record what is being diplayed on your monitor

Yep thanks I've tried them a little.

What I'm trying now is to do a real time dub on the same computer using my wintv pvr 250. The only problem is the audio. Since its from the same computer it just gives a buzz. I'm trying to output the audio then bring it back to the audio input of the capture card. But I want to keep the synch in line. Ideas??

  10. Use the "TV-out only on PVR 350 / Disable Software Mpeg decoding" Registry hack for the PVR-250.

Thanks but thats not quite it. I'm trying to record IN to my wintv from my video card OUT.

After trying for a couple of hours tonight I've pretty much resigned myself to outputting to videotape then redubbing it later.

And as for capping full screen DOS I don't think I'll ever be able to do it. At least not with my ATI Radeon 9250.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

No, that's exactly it. On the PVR-350 it disables the devices video output. But on the PVR-250 it completely disables the video and audio in WinTV2000 (normally it decodes the MPEG stream and plays the audio and video so you can see it while recording). I have used it in the past to record the video out of my computer to an MPEG file while playing a game or whatever. In addition, turning off the MPEG decoding reduces WinTV2000's CPU usage to nearly 0.

You can get the same result by pressing the record pause button (the one on the little record drop down window) while recording. That doesn't pause the recording (as you might expect), it pauses the decoding and display in WinTV2000.

You can also use WinTVCap. It's a command line app that records from the PVR-250. Before I discovered the reg hack for the PVR-250 I used that program.
