I am having issues with Tmpgenc plus lately, I never use to have problems. Lately I cannot seem to get mpeg2 decoders to work with it. With my typical codecs, I try to load a regular mpeg2 file or an m2v even, in tmpgenc plus they will say unsupported format. I check the environmental plugin tab, i think this is my problem. There is no listing for MPEG2 decoder. I have tried several mpeg2 decoders, including my old elecard one that I used previously. I am getting nowhere, tmpgenc will not list any of the decoders, nor load any mpeg2 files I atempt. I even tried creating a D2V file in dvd2avi, it will load it but not encode with it. Any ideas how to fix this? I do not want to reinstall windows, but I am guessing I need to remove registry somewhere and redo my mpeg2 decoder files.

I have tried both, however It is not just Tmpgenc that is causing problems with mpeg2 files. It is every program that is trying to decode it, not counting powerdvd player. I CAN load the m2v files in author programs such as dvd-lab pro, however, The programs will not read the file correctly. Some programs like DVDauthorGUI show it has a length of 30 minutes, yet it is a 1 hour anf 41 minute film. Programs like DVD-Lab Pro show it as it has 0 minutes. The time bar is 0:00:00 all the way through, it will not even let me create chapters without a pre existing chapter file from another program. It also says that the mpeg2 file has 0 GOP. Wich I'm sure is not correct, because when I author it plainly and burn to DVD-R it plays fine on my stand alone players.

I have come to the point where I can finaly get the subtitles where I want them, but now I can't do things such as make chapters from I frames(or auto-chapters) or have the programs read the correct film length. I don't nessisarly need Tmpgenc right now, but I would really like to have these mpeg2 files being decoded/read correctly. It is becoming very frustrating.

As far as I know, tmpgenc 2.5 cannot convert m2v files and therefore won't open them. You need a program that specifically deals with mpeg2 conversions in order to re-encode.

Most programs like windows media player will not be able to play mpeg2 files as well. You need special codecs like Dscaler installed to be able to view them in WMP, but even this will not allow you to convert or re-encode. Decoders are not encoders.

As far as your file goes, it's most likely corrupted in some way either during the encode or during some other step along the way. A good way to avoid this in future encodes is to have closed GOP's selected in tmpgenc. You might be able to try some tools in dvdlab for a quick fix though. Open your movie, right click and select delete all chapters (there may be hidden info on chapters if you've ripped this from dvd) and then frame index the non-existant chapters. By snooping around the film, this might show dvdlab the proper timecodes and GOPs. If that fails, go to the Tools tab and select "Rewrite GOP Timecode". Also try "Fix Stream Headers".

It should open them if you've got the TMPGEnc MPEG2 Plugin.

That said, there's been occasions where I've just ponied up DGIndex or DVD2AVI and frameserved the MPEG2 when all else has failed.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I cant load MPEG2 in TMPGEnc either, dont have any plug ins. I use DVD2AVI to generate a project and demux the MP2, then I can open the files in TMPGEnc no problem.
