As of this writing (10/23/05) Meritline is listing the Verbatims dual layer DVD+Rs for $3.99 per blank disc. They also list the Riteks (which worked great for me, although not everyone found these to be as safe) for $2.99 per disc. Obviously, that is prior to shipping.

My last purchase of dual layer discs were the Verbatims on a sale for $2.99 per disc (in a five pack). This was through Supermediastore.com.

I also recently purchased the _printable_ dual layer Verbatim discs (which are obviously more expensive) on a sale, at the following terms:

    20-pack for $110.00.
Less manufacturer's rebate, of $50.00 (not an instant rebate, as it was a coupon you must mail in with proof of purchase).

Once I receive the rebate, the final total cost will be $3.00 per disc. Not bad, considering they are Verbatims, and also that they are the printable ones.

The above deal was offered for 3 or 4 days only, through Meritline.com.

Other deals I have heard about / read about lately -- as mentioned above, the Verbatims were on the "clearance" price mentioned at many Staples stores, but most have long since sold out.

Also, 2 to 3 weeks ago, BestBuy.com offered the Verbatims for $2.99 per disc, briefly. I think I recall that these were the three-packs, but they might have been the five-packs. The response was apparently overwhelming enough that it was listed at their web site for only hours, and then a new notice went up that they were "sold out." Some of those who took advantage were able to choose to pick them up at their local store, so no shipping costs were added.

Keep your eyes open, and keep checking the various sales, as they continue to come down in price. I expect we will see most vendors rotate through the various brands until they get back to the Verbatims again. And, after a few more rotations, of course, we will see some further price reductions.
