I want to be able to watch over the air digital TV on my analog tv. I know I can buy a settop box for this purpose . I also know they cost around $200.00 and up new. I was wondering is there a DVD recorder or maybe vcr with a built in digital TV tuner for use in the USA (that would serve this purpose)? I hate to spend $200.00 on the digital tuner if I could get a DVD recorder for a few dollars more. Thanks

Thanks for the info however.... All 3 of these D VCR's mention that they are ready for you to plug in a Digital settop box ! There is no mention of Doigital TV tuner so I'm guessing you need the Digital settop box . Not what I was looking for but thanks anyway.

Go back and do your research. D-VHS VCRs (sold in the USA) usually include ATSC DTV tuners. There may be exceptions. They also usually include S-Video down converted outputs. There may be exceptions.Originally Posted by schwinnRecommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

ed,
Can these record Cable/Satellite HDTV signals at HDTV resolution?
I see the JVC model claims to record at HDTV resolution, but is that only non-encrypted? -
Thanks for the reply. I have tried to do research. I came here and asked the question because I couldn't find an answer elsewhere! The links you provide nor other google links do not provide me with info on ATSC tuners being included with D-VHS VCR nor DVD recorders as I'd hoped. The info seems to be missing on manufactures model info. thanks for your help.Originally Posted by edDV

D-VHS can record SD or HD. On my Comcast system, only the local DTV stations are available for recording over the IEEE-1394 connection. The analog channels are also available (encoded to MPeg2 TS streams inside the cable box) but are rather poor in quality. Better results can be had from the S-Video output for those channels.Originally Posted by CaptainVideo

D-VHS models usually have ATSC (DTV) tuners and are capable of SD or HD recording. DVD recorders almost always have analog only tuners. The info has to be out there if you dig. Or you can call the manufacturers for product sheets.Originally Posted by schwinnRecommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
