Hi there, i have created my first DVD using this wonderful app, using MPG's.

I have created a menu etc, and on my own DVD player the DVD plays fine, proper screen size/sound etc.

However when someone else's player is used, they get a strange problem as the picture appears in a kind of left-hand boxed area and does not stretch across the screen.

I'm wondering if it's a media problem (i.e. maybe try a DVD-R rather than a DVD+r) or if anyone else has had this problem and maybe fixed it somehow with the app ?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

No - if it is a pioneer then you should choose the following option:

Even if it is not it is worth a try.
    SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

No but it just means the processing takes a lot longer!

Nope, no joy, the machine isn't a Pioneer, but using the Apply Pan & Scan info doesn't do anything different.

The whole picture seems to have shifted to the left about 30% on it's X-axis. So the you get the last 2/3's of the picture appearing flush to the left, then at the very right hand side of the screen you get what should be the first 1/3rd.

    Any further ideas ?

    Thanks.

  9. This happens with my Toshiba 230E if that's any help. I'm not too bothered as I don't use it: the player I do use is some cheap thing that I won in a hospital raffle (a Pacific), and that works fine.

Not too sure on the makes, will try to find out, they're definitely not Pioneer's though.

Sounds like i'm stuffed either way, do you think there's any point in trying a DVD-R ? I've heard that one of the differences between + and - are the fact - DVD's work on about 8% more DVD players.

I can't really get them to buy new DVD players, even though they are dirt cheap nowadays.

I'm going to try one last time, get them to check all settings, making sure that no NTSC settings are set, get them to fiddle about with the 4:3/16:9 settings etc, maybe try a DVD-R, then i'm going to give up!!

Thanks for the help, if anyone has any other ideas what i can do to stop this X-axis stretching i'd be very grateful!

After doing a bit of research, i think it could be down to the BitSetting on the drive itself.

I think some DVD players have a real issue reading DVD+R discs (pre-mid-2004 ones apparently)

You can download a piece of software (for various players) that will (after "flashing" the drive), when burning a DVD+R/-R, basically make the burner burn it as a DVDRom so that it will play on more players.

Hopefully this will turn out to be my solution and have nothing to do with the encoding/settings in the proggy!

I'll let you know how it all goes.

  13. Interesting. My BenQ will set DVD+R to DVD-ROM by default but I've always bought DVD-R (IIRC only DVD+R can be bitset). If your tests are positive my next bacth will be DVD+Rs.

Right, following up on this, i have another question.

I've managed to set the booktype of the burner to always burn DVD-ROM.

As a test i managed to burn "real DVD's", i.e. DVD's that have come in the format of already being in a "VIDEO_TS" folder.

These work fine on the standalone DVD players that were having problems playing my SVCD2DVD constructed DVD's.

Why would this occur, why would a DVD that has been constructed out of 2 avi files and processed through SVCD2DVD NOT play on a DVD player (well, they play, but have weird screen-stretching/duplicate images see above), when a "normal" DVD will, burnt at the same speed, using the same media etc..

    Any ideas ?

    Thanks.

When you say "real dvds" do you mean dvds burnt as dvd9 to dvd9 with no type of processing or dvd9 to dvd5 via a backup prog. I ask cause I'm just trying to narrow it down to possible mpeg2 output from svcd, it sounds like the dvd player just doesnt like it. I had one before that wouldnt play ANY type of svcd-dvd (Sony) it liked nothing but real retail dvd, that s why I usually only buy cheap dvd players now ($30 and under) you can put a piece of bologna in it and it'll play.

I mean the type of "real dvd" you can download from certain places. So it's around 4.5gb in size to begin with and extracts to the appropriate VIDEO_TS folder.

Yes i agree, it sounds like it's just a problem with the player in that it can't play any SVCD>DVD, or AVI>DVD files. But i would have thought the thing that would determine that would be the file/folder structure, and the booktype, not the actual conversion, as i thought SVCD2DVD converted them into "proper" dvd format ?

avi to dvd should be "proper". Can you post or email your log?

  18. After SVCD2DVD runs are you getting a 'VIDEO_TS' folder?
