    Hi

I have a Liteon drive 451s. I have some DVD's (+) that i have done for a friend; he can't watch them because his home dvd player says disc error. I know they are encoded and authored correctly. The discs are not dirty nor cheap media (Ridata) and perfectly fine for my drive and home player.

I was thinking that if i change the booktype and maybe he could view them as ROM files. That may work.

My only question is that if i change the booktype with the utility available from Liteon, is it usual for it to then permanently booktype every +R/RW i burn in the future??? Or is it a selectable option at the beginning of each burn??

    Many Thanks

Within Nero, it is an option during burning. Even with it on all time, it won't affect anything for players that can already read your + discs.

Chances are, his player doesn't support +R discs or doesn't like Ridata discs.

I've been using a Liteon 851 for 2 years and use the Liteon booksetting utility. I've had couple people that couldn't watch +R disks on their player but they can watch if the booktype is set to DVD-ROM.

It does not permanently booktype every +R/RW. The setting remains for other disks I burn during that session, but is reset when the computer is restarted. If I wanted to burn with ROM booktype and then burn another disk as +R I can just reset it when I insert the next disk in the burner.

But I burn all +Rs with the booktype set to DVD-ROM- I don't know of any reason not to.

I also have a Lite-on 451 & I also always reset the booktype to rom. It does have to be reset each time you start burning. Once you turn off the computer it kicks off. And I also only burn DVD+r discs. My Philips standalone will actually play just about anything, but I still use the rom feature. I have some close friends who every once in awhile borrow a disc & they've never had a problem with any of my discs.
