Hey guys. I ordered a SATA drive (Seagate 250gb) and it's my first SATA device, so I have to ask you guys some things:

1 - I have 2 IDEs on my computer (1 Seagate 120gb IDE and 1 Samsung 120gb IDE) and I'll remove one of them and add the SATA HD. I'm planing to remove the Samsung drive, which is set as slave on secondary cable. Is it better to use the SATA HD as secondary and keep my Seagate IDE with the OS or use the SATA as primary master and use the IDE as secondary. Will I "see" the difference in speed?
2 - Do I need to enable anything on BIOS or something to use the SATA HD? I believe I have to enable something but I didn't look into it yet.

PS.: I always make two partitons on the primary HD, a small one for the OS and aplications and the rest for storage. I will keep it like that (just need to decide between the IDE and the SATA drive).

You do not need to remove any of your IDE drives if you're installing a SATA drive. SATA does not need to use jumper configurations like IDE, each SATA port has its own channel.

There is not any noticable speed difference betwwen IDE and SATA unless its a 10,000 RPM drive.

I know it. I'm not removing it just to replace for the SATA drive, I'm removing it to use on another PC.

I would set the SATA as the replacement for the slave drive. Using SATA as a boot can get complicated with some MBs and if you are using the SATA for a speed increase, it would have more benefits as a non-boot drive.

So I'll stick with my thoughts, just replace the Samsung IDE for the Seagate SATA.
    Thanx redwudz
But do I need to enable something on the BIOS os somewhere else to make the computer recongnize it ot I can just connect it to the MB and wait for Windows to find it?

In 3 of my setups that use SATA, I just plugged it in, partitioned and formated using 'Administrative Tools' and it was good to go. Windows initially may not always detect it, but it's there.

When you use one as a boot, then you sometimes need to add the SATA driver first to be able to install the OS. And with a system crash, I've had the MB not always find the SATA boot drive. A total shutdown and restart seems to get everything up and working again.
