Hi,
I've recently bought a JVC camera that records MOD format. I've read that this is same as MPEG2. Is there a program that you recommend for editing the MOD file and then burning it to DVD (for PC with Windows XP)?
Thanks for any help,![]()

What model of JVC are you referring to? If it produces a MPEG-2 file, then MPEG-VCR is one popular editor. There are many others, including some all in one programs that will edit, author and burn.
If the camera produces a MPEG-2 file that is DVD compliant, then you would also need a DVD authoring program to put the files in DVD format after editing. Then you burn it. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author, which can also burn. But you can burn the authored DVD file with many programs. I use Nero for DVD file burning most of the time. -
Thanks Redwudz,
The video camera is a JVC Everio GZ-MC500. I read that I have to rename the .MOD file to .Mpeg2 to edit the video, it this the right way?
An additional question, after editing and burning to DVD, is the video less clear than the original .MOD file? I am asking this because I want to know if I need to keep the .MOD file (takes up lots of harddisk space). If the DVD is the same, then I can just keep the DVD, I guess??
Thanks,

Hard to say,as there are number of factors.
If the mod files are in fact mpeg-2
If they are DVD compliant in resolution, framerate and bitrate
If you edit in software that doesn't re-ecode everything, and you keep your edits to simple cuts
If you don't try to put more than 60 minutes on a disk
then they should look identical to the originals because the actual video won't be changed.
If any of these aren't true, then there is always a risk that the video will be degraded to some degree. Whether or not it will be noticable will depend on how you proceed at that point.Read my blog here.
