ok I used to burn DVD's on my system all the time. Was using TDK -R that came with my burner and I had bought a stack of something similar. Then I hadn't burned or had a need to burn for a month or two, plus I ran outta disks and didn't see a need to buy more yet.

So I get a project where I need to burn a DVD. Comes time to put my little video comp. on a disk and that's where the fun begins.

First disk I made seemed to burn just fine. I used Roxio to encode the DVD ts stuff and burn the DVD as I usually did. Put the DVD in my home player and it played just fine... for a little bit. About 3/4 of the way through it locked up the DVD player.

This first disk, and the next 10 or so to fail in this way are from a spindle of TDK printable +R. All the DVD that fail in this way lock up the player they are in at varying points during playback.

So I thought maybe my DVD burner was going bad (Plextor PX708A) so I went to the store and bought a new Pioneer DVR-A09XL (or so I thought... the drive itself reports to Device Manager as a DVR-109, is that normal?). Installed this new drive with a new cable thinking maybe something could be haywire there.

    Still failing DVD burns.

Headed to Western Digital website and got software to check my HDD's status and found out my S.M.A.R.T. had triggered a fail message when my Read/Write speeds fell below tolerance... so I went and replaced my HDD... also with a new cable.

So of course in the process of installing this new HDD I re-install WinXP, purchase and install Nero 6, update the Firmware to my DVD burner to 1.5x what ever is on Pioneer webite (though not sure if I should have used the A09XL update or the 109 update, I used the A09XL), loaded all windows updates and stuff like that, installed a few drivers like printer and graphics and tried to burn again.

Still no go. Nero logs report dozens of lines like this:
    "
    2:24:12 PM #39 Text 0 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1286
    14:24:12.984 - PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109\H1 T0 : Queue again later
    "

At this point I have been able to burn a total of 3 DVD sucessfully. Thinking maybe it was media related I went a purchased Sony+R, -R, Fujifilm -R, Verbatim +R DL, Memorex -R, +R and Memorex Printable -R

Only 2 of the Memorex -R worked and only one of the Fujifilm. Sony=100% failure, TDK = 100% failure, Memorex Printable DVD=100%failure...

Total failure rate at this point of 98%.

Can someone, anyone, suggest what I should look at to try and figure out what the HECK is going on here?

Any info anyone needs to help you help me I will gladly post just someone please help! This is killing me! (I don't even copy movies... just make motion graphics for clients...)

This while video project I'm working on is 15 minutes long, 1gb approx size as video_ts folder, encoded to DVD by NeroVision, master uncompressed .avi encoded with Vegas, graphics and photo movement built in after effects. Video contains scanned photos, .jpg art, and digitized Hi-8 video clips. Project is for my church who wants to expand and I am doing this all as volunteer work.

    Motherboard, CPU, RAM, power supply.

That's about all you've got left.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Since you have done a fresh install of windows, I would now ensure the latest MB drivers are installed. Next make sure DMA mode is enabled on your IDE controllers.

Also, although you are using all name brand media, your symptoms resemble media problems with your standalone. You could try looking in the DVD Players section on the left for your player and see what media others have found to be reliable. Or you could get a quality media such as these: http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=R&Product_Code=1736-1...ode=TAIYOYUDEN

I've tried various other brands and had similar issues. Since I have started using only these...no more problems.
