  1. I am not interested in how fast I can write. I want to purchase a writer that will produce the fewest errors when written. I use Taiyo Yuden TYG02 –R DVD’s. I use Shrink to Rip and DeCrypter to burn. Thanks for your help in advance.

  2. By far, the best error scans of TYG02 burns are with my LG4163 at 4x. Chas0039 recently had a full burn with no PIF's....unheard of. I've been close with a couple single digit PIF's at this speed.

  3. I quickly looked out on Newegg and the closest to what they have in stock is the 4165B...

Is this the same drive...or do I need to look elsewhere.

  4. No, you really do need the 4163. Try here:

Still a few bugs in the system...

  5. Another good online retailer to buy from is zipzoomfly (formally googlegear.com)....they only have the beige oem in stock right now though....

Good retailer....ranks up there with Newegg in my book.

Also, Rima.com sells the OEM bare drives too.

Pioneer DVD burners. Easily the best.
In fact, they helped invent the technology.

    Same here.
My "overpriced" Plextor 716A writes them perfect. So does my BenQ1640 (under $40.00 @ newegg when I purchased it).
Excellent scans with both although I trust my eyes more than scans.
Also the Pioneer as lordsmurf mentioned. Add NEC for good reviews.
If using the excellent Taiyo Yuden -R media the brand of writer might not be as important as getting a good unit from the batch.
Example: The Plextor 716A has had lots of RMAs but if you get a good one it's nice.
For the money I pick the BenQ 1640 and upgrade to the BSLB firmware, no higher yet and leave settings stock.
