I would make sure you uninstall all Nero products then reboot and try installing the New Version.

I picked up Nero7 from Bestbuy; installed fine but when I try to open burning rom either from smartstart or the start menu it closes and reports it encountered a problem. Burningrom would open from express through. I uninstalled and will leave it off until I see some updates.

The packaged ver is 7.0.0 so I am waiting to see if Nero offeres an update on the 26th of Oct when it realeases the download version. Oh well, life goes on without Nero if I dont get it figured out.

Try the Nero Clean tools to get the rest of Nero out before you install the new version: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html

  8. I get the same problem. Even if I uninstall the program & re-install, I get the error message. Haven't tried the system clean tools yet. Is it only for versions 5 & 6?

Look at it this way; If you bought the program from Nero, rant, rave and scream at them to fix the problem. Accept no crap. They sold it to you, they should be the ones to fix it. If they can't or won't, demand a refund and wait till they get it fixed before you try it again.

I have sent a detailed email to Nero Support asking for a fix and referenced the comments here and at other forums stating several folks have the same problem; no answer from them as yet.

If they respond with a fix I will post their reply here

Got an answer from Ahead on this problem here is there answer, notice they say an update for the problem is scheduled for 1 Nov:

    Dear valued customer,

Thank you for your email and your interest in our software.

Here is a temporary solution till we release an update to resolve this issue. From the Desktop click on Start>Run>Type in 'regedit'>click o.k.>Open Hkey_Current_User>Programs>Ahead>Delete the folder 'Nero-BurningRom. When working with Nero 7 only use Nero Express to burn Data & Audio. We will have an update November 1st.

My gut feeling is they release the boxed version a month early every time to use us stupid enough to buy it as their beta testers, what a concept we pay Ahead to beta test their product.

Learned my lesson, wont get me again.

    I like this part:

When working with Nero 7 only use Nero Express to burn Data & Audio.
Why do they think you purchased the Nero 7 package, so you can use Nero Express?

    I hope they are embarrassed.

I'm sure it will be a good program, but it sounds like they are selling a unfinished beta just to get a jump on a bigger market share.

Yes,Nero (Ahead) once known for their reliable (Non bloat) software, has gradually gone downhill.I find that with Nero, once you find a version that works, stick with it and dont update. If you do,sometimes you find that certain parts of the software no longer work, especially with major updates eg v6 to v7.
I find that software you dont have to pay for (Freeware) always works best and has very few bugs. With large companies, its all about money and to me it seems quite SUSPECT that bugs that were fixed a year ago, suddenly appear again.

To get Nero burning rom portion of this behimoth to work you have to change the compatibilty to Win2000 if using XP. This has worked till we get the 1st of an eternal barrage of patches and updates.

  17. It's always wise to wait for updates to newly released software before plunking down money. Any first release is going to have major bugs.

  18. Nero 6 and Nero 7 are both garbage. Somewhere around 20% of the screams for help on this forum come from people trying to get Nero 6/7 to do something and failing.

Go back to Nero 5.5.X with the ASPI layer update to get it work on Windows NT. Short of that, jettison Nero Burning Rom and instead use RecordNow, a much better program in every possible way.

Yep, this does solve the problem, works fine now, hopefully NERO will have this bug fixed on 2 Nov as promised but will probably introduce several more with their fix.
