    There are many ways to add subs to your AVi file:

    1.Permanent or Hard subs - cannot be turned off. You'll probably have to re-encode the file for instance with VirtualDub;
    2.Soft Subs - you can multiplex the subs with VirtualDub;
    3.Soft Subs - maybe the best way to add subs. Please read the following explanation:

    1.Create a new folder and give it a name, for instance, the name of the movie;
    2.Drop your AVI there as well as your subtitle file. You must check out the extension (.SRT is a good choice since this way you'll have subs for your PC and your TV - I'll explain this later)***;
    3.If the file is not .SRT you may use Subtitle Workshop to convert it;
    4.Name the file as shown here:
    nameofthemovie.en.SRT or
    nameofthemovie.fr.SRT or
    nameofthemovie.pt.SRT
    (please note that en stands for english, fr for french, pt for portuguese, and so on...check out the language of the subtitle file);
    5.Download and isntall the ffdshow filter to watch movies + subs on you pc;
    6.Get that folder and burn a CD or a DVD data disc. Make sure your DVD player is compatible with Divx and Xvid. This way you can use your Remote control to turn on and off the subs as you usually do with regular DVDs.
    ***That's why the .SRT file is good. Subtitles as .txt (text files) only show on computers (are not compatible with DVD players).
    Hope it helps.

    I don't know if this application supports subtitles, but you can try. If you had Vegas and Sony DVDA you could convert the AVI to MPEG2 with Vegas, drop the file into DVDA and import the subs (one more time, you would have to convert the subtitle file to an extension compatible with DVDA). Sometime ago a friend wrote this:
    According to Sony, it'll accept subtitle files written in Sonic DVD Creator or Mac DVD Studio Pro formats. After playing with Subtitle Workshop and creating some sample subtitles, I found that the Sonic DVD Creator format is the best one to use.

    u can add srt to avi using srt2bmp

    use google to findit, guide included in it.

    very easy to use and doesnt reconvert the avi.

    best of all is that u can modify the subs(size, color.position etc)

    divxtodvd supports srt subs. just add the avi and the srt in divxtodvd and convert to dvd.

    ricardouk: it sounds like alexanne wants dvd-video...not divx on dvdr.

    Hi,

    Yes they will be there no problem

    you might want to take a look at this guide just to make sure.

    Also know that if they do not appear you simply need to hit the button "subtitles" on your dvd players remote control.
