hey all, our previous IT guy was a power mad control freak and set passwords on all of our network printers
    then he left....
now nobody can access these printers to adjust the settings
can anybody tell me how to reset or even better, delete the passwords for a Lexmark C762 and an HP LaserJet 4100 MFP???

I've checked both company's web sites and come up with nothing...
any help would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA!!!!

Most printers have a "Restore Factory Defaults" option which should obliterate any passwords (but unfortunately any other settings you might have tweaked as well).
    If in doubt, Google it.

you have to log on with the password to get to the menu with that option.....

Almost every networkable device I've seen has some sort of button combination or "pinhole" on the device to hard reset these settings. Obviously if you forget the password, a menu option behind the password isn't much help !

Google or the manuals or a phone call to the manufacturer would be my next port of call.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Are you talking about some type of software server off of a central computer, or are these printers network capable themselves?

If it's software, you'll have to uninstall (and I mean comopletely obliterate it, registry, etc.) and re-install. This is a weird setup, but I've seen it before. Very shoddy.

If they're network capable, simply do as jim suggested.
If they're connected to a separate print server (not a PC), it should have the same type of reset/default setting button

Also, after about 5 seconds of searching, I found this.

We've got a couple of JetDirect Print Servers and I've needed to use that guide a few times since it is impossible to tell the IP, subnet and gateway to first be able to crossover to the print server to change settings. Easy to just restore factory defaults. Works well.
    If in doubt, Google it.
