    Help!

    This is a hair puller.

When I play a DVD on my computer every 15 or 20 minutes it goes into fast forward by itself. If I exit, and then go back into the dvd player it is ok for another 15 to 20 minutes. Then it does it again.

It makes no difference what DVD I play. DVDs play fine in all other computers and players I have (8).

The computer is a AMD 1.8 duron with a Machspeed MB. 512 mb ram. 80 gig hd. Onboard video and sound. Running w2k and xp. Problem is in both os.

Problems persists with different drivers tried, different dvd units. different player software, etc. Even does it with a firewire dvdr. The only thing that is the same is mb, cpu and mem. Have latest bios. I have tried different mb settings. No help.

I normally buy intel cpus. Tried an amd and am regretting it. Also, I have tried to call machspeed several times and just get a recording. I leave messages but they haven't returned calls. Been 6 days. Will never by another machspeed mb again.

    thanks,

    John

I've had that happen to me too but not very often...however the same DVD's do it constantly. None of them were made by me....I got them from someone else.

The problem happens on all DVDs. Some DVDs are movies I bought in stores. Others I made.

Duron isn't a true representation of what AMD can do. It's like buying a Celeron and complaining about intel. Budget chips - pah.

What I don't see in your post is what software you are using to play the disks

    I think that it's a new form of copy-protection

I think you've got a heat problem in your DVD player.
    ICBM target coordinates:
    26° 14' 10.16"N -- 80° 16' 0.91"W

It can't be copy protection because the DVDs play fine on all my other computers. Just happens on this AMD one.

Mostly I use Power DVD. It also happens in Windows media player.

Heat isn't a problem. Cpu running about 107. As I said earlier it happens when I switch out the DVD and it also is the same with an external firewire DVD.
