I have a Jeep Cherokee with a DVD Entertainment System but it won't play movies that I've downloaded and burned onto a DVD.
Would a DVD hack help solve this.
(PS: I know Ford uses DVD Players made by Audiovox, but I don't know who manufactures them for Chrysler)
    Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks!

Have you been bit-setting? That is the only way my laptop will read a burned dvd is as a DVD-Rom. That has worked in everything I've tried them in so far.

I have a 2005 dodge minivan that also has a DVD kit from Chrysler in it.

I have been able to play DVD+R and some DVD+RW's in it.

It would not play TDK +RW's but would play older HP +RW's. It took a long time for the player to recognize them, but they did play.

+R's that I have used are TDK, Memorex (Both Ritek & Ricoh based) and HP. I have some Pioneer -R's but it wouldn't touch them.

I saw a reference to the player manufacturer once. I believe that they are made by KOSS, but I could not get an exact model number.

    Cheers

    Change media;

Confirm whether + or - media required for player; silly question but can be overlooked. You maybe using +'s when infact it should be -'s; or vice versa.

Check the manual that can with vehicle. There should be a manual specific for the entertainment sysytem. Check out the specs, model etc. Possibly do a Google search on model to get more info.

    Try burning at MINIMUM speed.

Last one; are discs dirty, greasy fingerprints, scratched etc etc?

Are you converting these movies to DVD compliant format before burning?

That's a thought!!! As per Gadgetguy's comment. Are you sure you encoded to mpeg2 AND authored to VIDEO_TS before burning??

  9. These movies could well be legitimate movies, maybe even provided by the car manufacturer. I know that BMW do some damn good short films that are free to download - one is directed by Guy Ritchie.

I certainly hope it is legitimate. No more comments on that, though - if you're going to post, please try only to help.

I was thinking that earlier also.....

A very serious option most seem to not truely consider.....
I have been doing this for almost 2 years and have found this to be AT LEAST as compatible to dvd-r's if not even more so....... which when you have a dvd player that wont play either dvd-r or dvd+r, but will play a dvd+r with the booktype changed to dvd-rom, i guess that would put it above -r in terms of compatibility.....

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions.
I tried bitsetting and burned as Book Type: DVD-ROM but that still didn't work.
I then switched to DVD-R's (instead of +R's) and these now work in my 2005 Jeep VES DVD Player.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the follow-up.
Reporting back what works is very valuable.

I need to update my previous post... I thought the DVD-R's worked, but I spoke too soon... Only one movie has worked so far, and everything else I've burned onto DVD-R's haven't worked. The only difference has been is the file size... the one that worked was a smaller movie (3.3GB)... the normal size ones haven't (4+GB).
Anyone have anymore suggestions for my 2005 Jeep Cherokee factory DVD player (called VES - Vehicle Entertainment System)?

This should be my last entry on this topic that I initiated because I'm fairly sure I have found the problem, which is... any PAL movies that I download do not work... only NTSC works... which means i now will have to convert my PAL movies to NTSC (unfortunately it takes a few hours to re-encode them), but at least i've found a way to play them in the Jeep.
BTW... DVD-R, +R, -RW, +RW all work if it's an NTSC encoded movie, and i've tried it with different media (Maxell, Verbatim, Sony).

It never occured to me you might be using PAL discs. The Jeep should be a region 1 system.
You're quite fortunate that it reads all that media.
