  1. Whatdo you experts think of this recorder. I find this model attractive because it can play DIVX files. It uses a 10bit chip. How is LG? I think this model is fairly new.

I got the LG LRA-516 a few days ago. As a player, it is severely crippled as far as navigation goes. As a recorder, I think it is excellent. I've posted some details in the review lists under dvd recorders.

Basically, as a player, it is quite limited with regards to playback navigation. It can't show you remaining time of the file nor can it show you remaining time of a chapter. It also can't skip chapters on VCD, SVCD, and XSVCD. (I don't know if DivX/Xvid even has chapter capabilities. Maybe DivX 6 does, I don't know. I only have DivX 5 and XviD encoders.)

As a recorder, I think it does an excellent job. It's my first stand alone DVD recorder, but, it rivals the output I get from software encoders like CinemaCraft and TMPGEnc. Compared to reviews I read about Panasonic and JVC stand alone recorders, I think this LG LRA-516 might have them beat.
