Either one will work. Depends on what your standalone prefers. I like to use +r bitset to -rom.

    I use DVD-R mostly.
And then sometimes DVD+R if it's YUDEN.

Be sure to buy good discs.

So both of them will work in most players?
    What about Dual Layer DVD's
There's - and + as well. I want to get burner but it writes one type of dual layer, which is +.
By the way what is the difference between them?
Another thing, what kind of dvd media is used to produce dvd movies by big movie companies?

    Thanks

  5. In America DVD-R is the standard for most folks, while in Europe DVD+R is the standard for most folks. The main issue is not playback on DVD players, since both formats will usually play back on almost all DVD players, but rather whether someone can rip/copy your disc if you trade it to 'em. Some folks have older DVD burners that either can't handle -R or +R -- in Europe, they typically can't handle -R, in America they typically can't handle +R.

+R media, having largely lost the battle for supremacy in America, are more expensive in stores. In Europe, -R media are more expensive.

Not a bit of that is true. None of it.

Those are sweeping statements. I looked around for facts and found nothing to support your arguments other than +R is ahead in Europe.

Show me links that support your statements.

I find little argument from 2004 on.

I'm not arguing +R or -R. I have both and so far see no advantage one over the other. For RW media I like the on the fly formatting that +RW provides.

  8. Life would be simpler if there was just one DVD format. Pick the type that your standalone player supports.

There was a time when DVD+R were more expensive than DVD-R. The price is now the same most of the time. The DVD+R format may be technically superior but I have not yet seen any practical differences.
