  1. Hi all got a challenge for you. Not sure whether this should be in dvd to dvdr forum but here goes..

I want to make a 2-3 mins dvd or avi clip by taking multiple clips from various dvds and adding them all together, and including some effects as well if possible. All the dvds are backed up versions so not worried about ripping problems. Is it easier to convert the few seconds from each dvd to avi, then use say winmovie maker to join. i tried to do this with simpledivX but the resulting clip wouldn't play.

Any advise welcomed or further clarification if needed. Any specific programmes i should check out?

    Cheers folks

I would recommend using an MPEG video editor to just cut and paste together the clips you want. Both VideoReDo and MPEG2VCR can do this. I prefer to use MPEG2VCR, but that's just me. Converting to AVI and then back to MPEG2 is a bad idea and a huge waste of time.

  3. thanks i shall look in to their guides.
I should have said that i dont mind if the final 3mins of clips are in avi format or mpeg. I just thought it would be easier to go from dvd to dvd rather than encode all the small clips individually to avi and then join them. anyway win movie maker doesn;t seem to want to play my avi's, not my xvid encoded ones anyway!

    cheers
