I have a 250 Gig Maxtor SATA drive that I use to capture video data to. I use Scenalyzer Live to capture from video tape using a Canopus ADVC 100.
I was having some problems, and chose to test the hard drive performance using the option in Scenalyzer. To my great surprise, it said the performance of my SATA drive was only 1.7 times real time. So I then tested an external USB 2 drive, and it was about 10 x real time. I changed sata cables, no difference. I then replaced the maxtor Sata with a hitachi 250 gig sata (same cables, channels, etc), and the performance was something like 20x real time. So all this suggests a problem with the Maxtor.
But then I ran a hard drive performance utility, and it rated the maxtor about the same as the hitachi. So everything seems equal, but Scenalyzer Live consistently rates the Maxtor at 1.7x, and the other drives much higher!
Any thoughts on this?

It this drive new? 4+ years ago I bought a 60-GB PATA Maxtor drive, which has sinced died on me. Anyway ... this drive came with write verification enabled which in effect took twice as long to write data to the drive. The drive was configured to disable this after 10 or so on-off power cycles. I didn't want to wait that long so I downloaded a utility from the Maxtor site that allowed me to disable this "feature" manually.
