  1. Someone I know had a sonogram recorded on a new VHS tape but when the tape is played back on every VCR I have tried the video looks like the tracking on the VCR is off. Adjusting the tracking does not help. Why when I pause the video I get a clear frame with no horizontal static lines. Does anyone know what this problem is called or how I might fix it? Also the audio sounds fine when there is audio to be heard.

These 3 screen caps are when the video is playing.

This cap is from when I paused the tape.

    Thanks!

The heads of the vcr got clogged at the time of recording and there is no way of getting the picture that should of been recorded.

  4. I had the vcr play the tape in slow-mo which is 1 frame a second and capture that because each frame is perfectly clear. Then use software to speed up the video. Unfortunately the vcr will only do this slow-mo for about 3 minutes so that's 180 frames captured before the vcr stops the slow-mo and cuts off. With the video being 9 minutes long do that would take 4.5 hours of micromanaging. =(

    striker777,

The problem with this tape is one of the video heads was clogged when recording. What happens is you see only 1 field per frame and when you pause, it shows the same field twice.

If you can, capture the clip in real time.

Then use VirtualDub and with the resize filter, double the hight. Use the Deinterlace filter and try 'Discard field' 1 or 2 which ever works.

For best quality, use the resize and deinterlace filters in that order.

    Just a thought,

    Chas

  7. Nope that didn't work. On playback the video rolls too much and shows to much distortion. Thanks for the suggestion.

    striker777,

If you can capture with VirtualDub, try the Deinterlace 'Duplicate Field' 1 or 2 filter while capturing.

    My final thought... maybe,

  10. Whoever recorded this needs to know that their hardware is messed up. If it was the doctor's office, I bet lots of expectant mom's are receiving the same crappy video.
