Alright, my roommate has an iMac and I hvae a pc. We are connecting to the internet via Linksys WRT54G.
I have file and printer sharing set to allow, and 3 different folders being shared.
He has gone through the steps on his computer to share files.
When I go to \\192.168.1.100\nicksobba (which is what his computer is) it doesn't find anything.
What are we doing wrong? How can we get pc/mac to share files with each other?
Thanks

OS9 or OSX?
If a recent version of OSX Try
smb:\\192.168.1.100\nameofshare -
EDIT: du try smb://comptuername(oripaddress)/sharename
NOT \
Odd. If I'm sharing a folder called STUFF with windows xp basic file sharing and type in
smb:\\ipaddress\STUFF
it pops up fine.
Where are you typing it? Under GO|Connect to server? -
If he types it under GO/connect to server it just times out.
if I type it in under start/run it gives me the parameter's error.
strange? -
Yeah I'm gonna move this to mac to see if it can get someone with a better answer.

We'll just have to try again tonight and see if we are doing something wrong.
Do you have to go/connect to server each time you want to access that folder or is that a one time deal? -
Go connect should mount it. Which means it there on the desktop until you reboot IIRC.
You SHOULD also be able to browse to the computer from the go|connect menu but I've found that not to always work. -
When i connect to my kids pc machines, i just open a window in the finder and selects the network icon at the left, then both of my kids pc's shows up. maybe because we belong to the same workgroup, i don't know. Are you absolutely sure about the ip on the windows machine? my router give us ip's like 192.168.0.2, 192.168.0.3 and so on. The d-link i had before that gave us 192.168.0.102, 192.168.0.103 and so on.
Just a thought, sorry if it doesn't help. -
Make sure the a port is open on the PC firewall (if you're running one).
The shared folder on the PC shouldn't have any spaces in it, the Mac user should be prompted for a username and password when connecting.
I'll see if I can find a AppleScript I wrote to do this.
What is the version of OS X (Jag was ok, Panther was kinda hit or miss, and Tiger is pretty good)? -
Finally got it to work!
He didn't save his settings when he allowed windows file sharing, and I was using my hard drive name, not my computer workgroup name.
It's all good nowThanks for the suggestions guys.

Glad to hear yer connected!
Whatever happened to the network browser?..putting it on the bottom of the GO menu was a poor solution Apple!
At least it wasn't 9.2 as the PC needs special software to make it(the PC) an APPLE TALK item! -
with windows share on its even easier if you just use "show network computers" option in XP
just as the "netowrk" works in mac, your PC should be able to see compters on the wireless netowrk.
Double click on his comp name, use the log in and pass he has for his comp and it will load as if you are accessing your own HD.
He can do the same assuming you have the settings allowed. On his end its just under "network" which is a finder option in the finder window.
