when recording TV thru ATI/MMC, there seems to be problems with saving larger file sizes. when recording 4-5hours worth of MPG (which with my settings is about 2-2.5gig per hour) I have seen it get errors on ending the recording/saving the file, and at least once a blue-screen-of-death. I dont seem to have any issues with one- and two-hour recordings.

Not sure if there are issue with ATI and larger files, or if my system itself is having problems with these files.

I assume you are using the latest drivers and MMC updates. Most likely it is a MMC issue, although I've never had any troubles, I've never had 10GB + size files.

You may not have enough hard drive space.
Could also be bigger issues with drive writing.

ATI MMC has never made a BSOD that I've seen, it's would either freeze or disappear/quit. BSOD is usually a Windows error only.

I am using MMC 9.03 as that seems to be extremely stable (in most regards). it is NOT a disk space error as I routinely make sure I have at least 20-30gig free. the common error is MMC freezing up, or apparently not starting or dissapearing during recording (I almost exclusively record when I am not home so cant be sure of those 2). I dont have the problem with short recordings of 1-2hours, only when recording something 4+ hours like a football game or auto race.

8.7 was nothing but problems for me. I had then tried 9.2 but couldnt get it to install properly, maybe caz previous versions left remnants. I'd rather explore other options than install another version of MMC, and one that I know I had problems with already. This is so far the only version I have used that begins to be trusted. I'd rather explore options that include MMC settings and/or XP settings and/or HD options. I'm gonna try using one of the other 2 installed HD's for recording and see what happens then

Have you tried to make sure that your MMC temporary drive is the same as your destination drive?

Others may be correct in that it is a hardward issues with your drives. Setting MMC to use the same drive for the temp file (that it actually captures to) and the destination file (that you want to be).

If these things aren't the same, then what's happening is that MMC is recording to one drive and when the capture is complete moving it to the destination drive. No small feet for an 8-10gb file. Though this should work, it is unnecessary.

This issue is listed in the FAQ for issues with MMC not shutting down properly/quickly when the capture is complete or when capturing back to back shows.

Its alot quicker to rename a file on the same drive than to move it between drives.

(I didn't get into the whole logical drive thing with partitions but the above still holds true as long as there are seperate drive letters invovled regarless if its the same physical drive.)
    Have a good one,

Is your system otherwise stable? Try a benchmarking test/program to see if your pc's underperforming anywhere. See sandra 2005 (http://www.sisoftware.net/).

    pglenn,

I don't have it here in front of me, but check the 'One Touch Record' settings and the 'Recorder' tab. It'll have the drive setting and the free space setting if I remember right. Sorry....

yeah, I found that already, about where you desribe it if I remember right. The TEMP was set to the same drive as I am recording on. I turned temp OFF in case that would make any difference.
