I have been using TMPGEnc for some time now without problems. Recently I tried to convert an .avi file and got a message saying that the file type was unsupported. I can't figure out why since I've NEVER had a problem with converting .avi files before. So I used GSpot to find out the file info. All of my codecs are up to date, and everything seemed standard for an .avi file. Any suggestions as to why I can't encode this particular file?

.AVI is a generic term. What does Gspot tell you that the real format is? Xvid? Divx? 3vix? Mp4? DV? These are all valid AVI formats.

Exactly, avi is just a container it can contain any number of different streams. By default TMPGEnc will require a VfW decoder. You can change this by increaing the dshow input priority.

According to GSpot it says the Video SRC Type is MP43 (S-Mpeg 4 Version 3) and that's about it. It says that the codecs needed to process this format are already on my computer. They are ffdshow Mpeg-4 Video Decoder and Morgan Stream Switcher. Does this help at all? As you can tell I'm very uninformed about this subject.
