That's what I meant as a seperate entitiy....

Best bet in the end is offer your services to the band. Most will be more than willing to pay a decent price for well produced video even if it's just for themselves.

    coalman,

Just out of curiosity, what would you call a "decent price?" Strictly for conversational purposes....

Guess that depends on the quality of your product... right noew I'm getting about $400 per shoot which is thew usual 3 sets. That includes the tapes only. But I make some pretty smooth video ( iahve a very good tripod, lockable variable zoom) and it looks like this :

Don't know what others charge but I'll be charging more soon. I'm producing much better video that I was a year ago.

    44echo,

Unsaid so far, you by selling the DVD make yourself a target.

A typical lawyer will hear the client's complaint (e.g. band, someone in the shot, venue promoter, song copyright owner, etc. etc.) and then do research on you. If you or your parents (if a minor) have assets or a current liability insurance policy, then you are game. By game I mean they will hit you with everything they have in hopes of a settlement in your disfavor. Such is the life of a small businessman.

Exceptions are the BMI, ASCAP type enforcers who are out there to threaten bars and other venues who fail to pay music royalties. Historically those types can stay on you butt like pollen to a honeybee.

    Ed,

Thanks for the info. That's why I came here asking before I sold anything.

    coalman,

Based on the way *my* screen caps look, you've got some very good video there.

You get what you pay for... at least most of the time. That's from a Canon GL2. Experience goes a long way too for difficult shooting situations. I'm still learning myself, guess your never stop doing this.
