The multi-state PB lottery is now up to $340 million. If taken in a lump sum would probably put you at around $120 million. I wonder if it is possible to accept it without your identity going public. How would you invest it ?

Even in the higher tax bracket, you would get closer to 200 Mil in a lump sum (185-193).

I would be very charitable. I have pretty much everything that I (modestly) need.

My one extravagance would be to have Best Brains do an MST3K of a (probably current) blockbuster.

I'd figure out how much I could leave in the bank in order to live easily off interest. Ditto on the donations, if they'd let you do pre-tax deductions for charities I'd give what I could. I think the best feeling about having all that money would be that I wouldn't be in any more debt. I think that would feel pretty great in itself.

Actually, it has always been a dream of mine to buy and renovate one of the old castles still standing in Scotland, Wales, or Northern England. Sure they can be too drafty and dark to make good homes but there was just something about the castle I stayed in over there for so long that made me feel more at home than anywhere else.

And I'd probably take my dream of sailing a ship-rigged frigate further by investing in one as a sail training vessel that I could take command of. I've always wanted to cruise the islands off the coast of African and the Med in a tall ship.

But then I don't buy any lottery tickets whatsoever. Sometimes I go in on the pool at work just to be a team player. Lottos just weren't ever interesting to me.

Wow. That's kinda been a dream of mine, too.

  5. You can really do great things with these castles and old buildings, if you throw money at them. No doubt, it'd be a very nice place to live!

Not the kind of castle I'd want though, I'm talking about the ones with 4-foot+ thick masonry walls on the keep. That's why I was saying they were so dark and drafty. Imagine the possibilities with a good-sized motte and bailey layout: gardens, stables, workshops... I think I could keep so busy in a place like that I'd never run out of something to do. And if you were rich you may not need to carry a job so it gives you something to do. Now if only there were still serfs...

Remember the old TV show, "The Millionaire?" A reclusive billionaire, John Beresford Tipton, had his personal secretary and attorney, Michael Anthony, give away certified checks of $1,000,000 to persons he didn't know and then watch what they did with it. If I won triple-digit millions in a lottery, I'd kind of like to do that ... anonymously, of course. And, I'd hire a private eye to "discreetly" follow their activities and report them to me. After a few years of this, I'd write a book about these people (without mentioning their names) and what that kind of money did for them (and to them).

If i won something like that.. i would vanish SOOOOOooooooooooooo fast!!!!!!! be on a plane to some remote island in the south sea's to relax and live out my life!!!!!!!
Everyone i know would be like, What happened to him ?? one day he was just gone

And yes, here if you win the lottery you can remain anonymous.....
If you didn't... can you just imagine everyone comming out of the woodwork asking for $$$$$$
Of course i would share with people i really cared about, parents, close loved ones, but very few that were close....
And i would be SOOOOOoooo gone!!!!!!!! 8)

Easy: I'd replace my car that just died on the way to work tonight.

After that I'd pay off bills and sit on the rest for the rest of my life. Live on the interest.

Ahhh that's my plan when I win it. I'm buying 2 or 3 million dollar buses with giant canopy windows, jacuzzi's, quads, boats, Hummer, all wheel drive, 500hp cat motors, ...... I already have a little bit of spent on myself.

The rest I would set up in trust funds for the 20 or so young nephews and cousins. Maybe a few million to Ma & Pa and my brothers. Couple of more millions to a few special realtives, then I'm out of here.

I'd buy a patch of land here on the Pacific Coast of the US, preferably up north a bit, and I'd build a sea-fortress castle. And no using concrete or anything, Stone blocks all the way. Well, maybe renforced with steel... but 20-foot thick walls and a towering keep... With the Sea crashing against the rocks below...

    Castles are awesome. =D

I would get it in all ones and swim in it like Scrooge McDuck from Ducktales (da do doot).

I also I would get clone shells made of myself and get body transplants, so that I live for ever and never have to pass the money on to anyone.

A pyramid to store my dead husks will need to be built.

Other than that I would live exactly that the same as I do now.

One of these days.... maybe......hopefully.....when hell freezes over..... I don't gamble that much, one or two casinos a year and few lottery tickets when the jackpots get really big.

I already hit the jackpot anyway, residential coal sales are through the roof. Not many people do what I do, additionally to get started in my line business would require quite a hefty investment.

  17. I'd setup an international prize, with an investment arm to ensure its perpetuity. Cash prizes would be awarded to a raft of promising scientific or social activities and research. The aim would be to foster developing talent, rather than award the few who have already achieved success. I'd keep a little for myself and close family. I don't need to own a castle or an island; I'd lease both every few years or so - every year I'd lease something, a boat, a jet, a submarine.

I'm reasonably sure that this lottery doesn't extend into Maryland. However, if I somehow managed to win anyway, I'd probably invest it in income generating securities (preffered stocks, REITS, etc.) then live off the interest. As for stupid stuff I'd do with the money, I'm reasonably sure I'd visit Vegas, etc.
