Just wondering, what's a typical time period to convert a DVD to a VCD?
To convert a 122 minute DVD:
35 mins to rip VOB files.
3 hours 9 minutes to save the project in DVD2AVI format.
13 hours 10 minutes to encode to mpg in TMPGEnc.
Total: 16 hours and 54 minutes.
That on a PII 400MHz with 128mb RAM.
Normal?

hey
Ya that sounds about right?
Im asuming u rip your sound with DVD2AVI?thats a bad idea u should use a external program to get the sound then u could use TMPGenc to synch the 2!
Why r u making VCD's?u do know about SVCD's right?
Well good luck!

If this helps...
850 intel laptop 128 Ram, 12X DVD rom.
Rip 120 min movie with Smart Ripper = approx. 13 min.
convert to .d2v & audio with dvd2avi = approx. 22 min.
(converting w/ dvd2avi using 'ultrahigh' sound setting = 2hours 30 minutes)
TMPGEnc encoding to standard VCD is approx. 6 hours
So all in all I would say about 7 hours for a bare bones conversion with normal sound quality and about 9 hours with highest sound quality.
when I upgraded to a newer computer with a faster processor my speeds almost doubled. (Had AMD k6-450 w/ 128ram) and this same process took about 12 - 14 hours depending on sound quality.
PS: smart ripper will not Rip at your max DVD rom speed... it will depend on what applications you have running, processor speed and cleanliness of you DVD disc.
I hope I helped!

blah....
ripping at even a measely 4-6X...a normal sized movie can be ripped in under 15 min...
with dvd2avi....w/o any normalization or down sampling...normal sized movie can take at most 20 min to create .d2v project file and .wav audio file
CPU power really comes into play here...i use 2 comps to encode with
normal 2 hr movie...takes around 13-15 hrs to encode on my athlon 650 mhtz to encode...however it only takes around 8 hrs max to encode on my athlon 1.2 ghtz
