VCD playback

Hi All


I have made several VCD disks with menus.

All play OK in my standalone DVD, VCD etc etc player, I see the menu and pick what scene I wish to view.

Now if I play the same disk in my Mac using VLC it just plays the first scene and thats it, I see no menu

What version of VLC?
VLC typically does not display Video CD menus,
since version 8.0, only DVD Menus.

For an app to show and respond to VCD menus, it's got to support the VCD 2.0 spec. Very few PC apps do (Roxio's VCD_PLAY.EXE is most common, not counting DVDplayer apps), and only 1 Mac app that I know of ever supported this (Query's InternetDiscWriter, or similar in that family). That was for OS7, and was next to impossible to find in '98/99 when I got it. You might luck out and find that Apple's DVD player does, but I doubt it.

It would be great if somebody would reverse engineer an opensource version app similar to the Roxio player, but I don't see much demand for it now, with VCD on the wane.

I seem to recall that MacVCD X can play back VCD 2.0

Not correctly.

It can play tracks (SEQUENCE ITEMS) and can "play-through" SEGMENT ITEMS, as if they were tracks, but it doesn't have ANY controls for Menu Selections, ReturnKey, Hotspots, etc. Doesn't follow the PBC flow...
