I think it's a double layer disc. What usually works for me is DVD FAB encryptor and DVD shrink to burn. I've also tried DVD Decryptor 3.5.4.0 to decrypt thinking the problem was in the decryption, but to no avail.

Both decryptors complete the process, but with DVD fab decryption I can't get passed a couple of seconds of encoding before I get an error which causes DVD shrink to shut down. The DVD Decryptor 3.5.4.0 works fine, and DVD shrink burns the disc (minus extras and director comentaries etc to get the disc to an acceptable size) just fine, but then won't play on my stand-alone or my computer.

Anyhoo, hope you guys have some input. If you need anymore info, feel free to ask, and as always...tia

  2. When DVDShrink can't open the output from DVDFabDecrypter, one usually suspects the original disc is ARccOS-protected. A number of Fab updates have supposedly corrected the problem, but it recurs. On the other hand, Red Dragon is a Universal release, is it not? To my knowledge, only Sony and Columbia DVDs have ARccOS.

You should be able to get DVDShrink to accept Fab output by "washing" it through VobBlanker. Just load and hit "Process". Then try to open the VobBlanker files with DVDShrink.

    Good luck.

I'm not really sure what the problem is. I had to look up what exactly ARccOS was, and I guess it could be that. I've tried 3 times using VobBlanker/DVD Shrink, but no luck. Without removing anything, the compression was like low 50s which I initially thought was the problem. Then, in the second attempt, I blanked some of the extras which resulted in about lo 60s compression. The third try I just recorded the movie, no extras, no menus, and the compression was mid 70s, still not working.

    I'm out of ideas.

  5. Red Dragon was made long before ARccOS was even THOUGHT of, if your having problems with that one, then you should check the disc for scratches, because either its a mispressed disc, or its dirty/scratched, you should be able to copy this thing even with some of the older utilities around, dvdshrink, smartripper, ect......

    Hey guys,
thanks for your help. I checked the disc for scratches, and not a one. I'll try the smartripper/DVDshrink combo. Thanks again for your input. I'll let you know how it worked out.
