I do not know the deep tech details, but I have tried my best to find the solution to my problem by browsing and reading this forum, tried some things, but failed.

The big picture: I have a lot of VHS tapes with video I once moved to VHS from the Sony Camcorder I had many years ago. Now I have started to move these films over to DVD, and want to edit these DVDs as well. All is ok, but when I want to edit the DVD and burn a new copy with the edited film, the aspect ratio changes and the film on the edited DVD is streched sideways, as if it were widesceen...

    My process (PAL system):
    - I record my VHS video output to my Sony HX710 HD/DVD recorder, to the HD in LP format. This film looks ok
    - I copy the HD film to DVD+R with the HX710, LP format, and finalize the DVD. This film looks ok in my player, and also in my computers DVD player (all of them). And in my daughter's DVD players..

    - I start my Sonic MyDVD Studio and opt to edit the DVD, so the film loads ok and I edit it with some nice background for the title, insert text tables between some scenes, etc. I then look at the preview in the MyDVD Studio, and everyting plays and looks fine.

    - I finally burn this result back to a new DVD.

When I play this new DVD, everything is streched!!

In my tries to solve the problem, I had the MyDVD Studio to save the edited DVD film as a folder on my computer HD, and used IFOedit to change every occurrence of 16:9 etc, to 4:3 in the IFO file, and saved. Then I played the film from this folder with the DVD player in my computer. Still stretched!

    (help!.... )

In Sonic, what aspect ratio is your menu set at? Perhaps the player forgets to switch from menu aspect to movie aspect even though the movie aspect is correct.

I cannot find out how I inspect and change this setting in the MyDVD Studio.

I have found a way that seems to work. Instead of importing the DVD for editing in MyDVD Studio, I start a new project and in "add files" I go to the DVD and checkmark the video files I want to incorporate in my new project. From that on, I proceed with editing, addition of menues, etc. as for any new project, and finally burn the project back to another DVD. This way, aspect ratio is preserved.
Why the "edit DVD" changed the aspect ratio I still do not know, and for the moment I do not care.

My only problem now is where the ... MyDVD Studio stores away those video files I have imported I certainely do not want my HD to be filled up over time with remains.
