  1. I want to shrink a dvd-9 to fit onto a dvd-5. The disc is actually 7.36GB on DVD9. When dvdshrink opens the disc and does a quick analysis and gets to the next screen, At the top the 'supposed to be' green bar is both green and red. It is green up to 4,464GB and then red after that upto 5,875GB.

Because of this I am unable to shrink it to fit onto a DVD-5. When I click backup I get a message telling me tat it will not fit onto a dvd-5.
When i back it up it still does not shrink it enough to fit onto a dvd-5 as it is 5,875GB rather then below 4.5GB.

I have removed the unwanted subtitle and audio tracks and the bar is still part red.

    Can anyone help please?

Run the output files from Shink through Shrink a second time, that will reduce it to DVD-5 size, though the quality may suffer.

  3. Since DVD Shrink only shrinks the video and not the audio, you might also want to try removing any unwanted audio tracks if possible.

Select "re-author" and double-click on the main movie file. You will lose the menu and extras but they are generally a waste of time anyway.

Sounds like you may have an uncompressed audio track in there that can be mondo sized. Getting rid of it should solve the problem and keep all the menus and extras.

When you have the files displayed in Shrink, what does it say in the drop down in the right hand pane (Compression Settings)? If it is set on No compression or Custom Ratio (and the slider not set high enough) it will display as you decribed. Set it at Automatic and it will sort out it's own compression ratio and the whole bar will turn green.

As it is showing some compression, but not enough, I suspect you have used Custom Ratio before and it is still set on that.

And ignore all the idiots who don't answer the question you asked but tell you to do it a different way!

  8. Thanks for the help guys!

I shrinked it once and it got down to 5.875GB from 7.36GB. But the second time I shrinked it it got down from 4.764GB which still isnt enough to fit onto a dvd-5. Is there a way to do this without having to shrink it at least 3 times? I have tried reauthor mode and still does not compress it enough.

@ Richard_G........It is set to automatic. I have set it to dvd-5 in preferences also. The compression settings is 73.3% and I cant change it and the slider next to it is all the way to left.

    Any ideas???

Are you doing a movie only? With one audio? Check to see what reauthor shows as you main movie. It might be show two files that are actually identical. Preview them to make sure and then just use one. I've had a few movies that do that.

The math has to make sense. A DVD0 divided by50% has to be either just right for a DVD 5 ort a bit less.

Have you tried "Deep Analysis"? It does a 2-Pass on it and helps get the compression levels more accurately. Use the quality enhancements while yer at it.

  13. This is where a program like dvd2one comes in better. I have had the rare case in the past with shrink still telling me its not going to fit on a disc, yet if I run the project through the dvd2one app instead, it fits/shrinks fine.

The main difference though is that dvd2one is not free, while shrink is

  15. In my own case it was from 2 dvds I had joined in dvdremakepro. No idea what discs the orignal post is refering to, but not everyone always want to split a disc. Especially when shrink should be able to fit it and doesnt, but other apps that do the same process work fine for the same disc.

Frankly, I'm dunbfounded? I've never had any great problem with any episodic disc and just to prove the point I tried it with a disc I would not normally bother trying to copy. It shrank to 77% with plenty of room to spare.

What I think is happneing here is what happned when I tried to copy LEXX. Each episode was listeded twice in the directory for no good reason that I could think of which gave the impression that the disc contained twice as many files as it actually did.
