ok i have a live recording on dvd that has been transferred from an old vhs.. only problem is there is alot of hiss in the background so i decided to try and clean the audio up..
heres the steps i took:
first i used TMPGenc plus 2.5 to demultiplex all the VOB files that i want to edit the audio from...
then i used PX3convert to change the ac3 files in wav files..
then i opened them in adobe audition and edited out the hiss and saved them.
then i used ffmpeg to convert them back into ac3 files... (i picked random bitrates until the resulting ac3 file was same size as original)
finally i used imago mpegmuxer to join the ac3 files back together with the m2v files to make VOB files...
everything seemd to play fine in powerdvd after some bad problems using a different muxer to join them, anyway the one problem i noticed is this: the new VOB files are all bigger than they used to be.. they used to be 0.99GB, now they are 1.05GB.. even though the ac3 file was same size, anyone any idea why this is and will it affact playback compatability on hardware dvd players? i had the ceiling room on this dvd for a little extra space as it wasnt quite 4.7GB but im future this may not be the case..
so basically any info would be appreciated, including info on compatability issues, the programs im using and if there is better ones etc would be appreciated.. thanks.

Burn it on a DVD-RW disc and see if you get any problems. Test it on a few standalone players.
Quality is my policy.
