I am new to DVD burning and would appreciate some help, I have searched elsewhere in this site but couldn't find the answer to this. I am usin Avi2dvd to convert my .avi files to DVD. Most of the time it works perfectly but occasionally when I check the conversion files before burning, the last couple will have the audio out of sync with the video. Any ideas how I can fix that? Can I split the .avi file in two and convert each half separately?

A couple of the dvd's that I burned won't play on the TV DVD. Looks like the old TV's with the verticle hold out of whack. Any thoughts?

Thanks for any help you can give me

This is 2 unrelated problems, I think. full_auto seems to have problems with the files, n3mi with the final DVD right?
@n3mi, it sounds like bad media. Try making your DVD a little smaller than a full DVD, like 4.2 GB, to avoid the outer edge of the disc, where bad media usually have problems.
@full_auto - sync problems are usually caused by either errors in the source avi, or a frame rate conversion gone bad. (Like the AVI is PAL, and you encode to a NTSC dvd). Also, VBR audio in the source causes trouble for many encoders.
Your last prob with "vertical hold" also sounds like a TV system/frame rate mismatch.

By encoding it at a lower bit rate. How to achieve that, depends on what you use to encode.

Thanks for the info, but what's the solution? I found another program to convert the files, Super DVD Creator, which fixed the sync problem, but now all the DVD files are too large to burn onto a 4.7 g disk (which apparently is actually only 4.5 g. What happened to the other .2 gb?) and the output quality isn't as good. Man this stuff is confusing. I tried DVD shrink 3.2, which made the file smaller but when I tried to open it there was no video.

OK I thought I had it fixed. With the new program the out of sync problem is not as bad as before, but it is still happening. I guess what I have to do is separate the audio from the video and either stretch the audio track or shorten the video. Does anyone know of a freeware program that can do this?

Well I licked the sync problem. I set Super DVD Creator to spit the file every 150 mb and it doesn't have a chance to get out of sync. Still working on the size thing.
