Hi all 1st post. I have the Ilo DVDR04 and have been cpoying VHS Tapes to DVD. I have the time set for 2hrs when doing a 1 hr copy, I have been using BJs Brand DVDs. Sometimes I can only get say the 1st 25 min of a 1hr. show. The padlock at the top is unlocked but it stops recording sometimes about halfway thru the VHS. Sometimes I get the whole show, on a different tape. Any thoghts? Try to keep answeres in easy to understand words as i'm not the greatest at this stuff. Thanks in advance Stick.

Sounds like a faulty unit or there is some issue with your VHS tapes. Could possibly be old tapes or poor quality recordings and the unit is stopping the recording process as the signal is degraded or distorted.

Thanks Critter I didnt know about old tape issues, this certianly may be the problem, as some of the tapes are 10=15 years old. I dont think there is any problem with the unit (hopefuly).

  5. Or it could be that your recorder is sensative to dropouts from the tapes.

I had the same problem.... I solved it by buying a TBC.

The TBC cured that problem as well as removing macrovision.

  6. Good advice. If the sync track on a VHS tape is old, it can get flaky and the VCR may have troubel tracking the tape even though you don't see it onscreen. Analog TVs are remarkably error-tolerant so even though a VHS tape has a trashed sync track you might not see more than a momentary wobble of the picture onscreen.

Your video A/D, however, will detect this and shut down because it mistakenly thinks it's macrovision. Yet another reason why all these cockamamey protectin methods are counterproductive. An excellent TBC is the AVT 8710, available for $179. Or you can pay more for a Datadivideo TBC-1000 that does about the same thing for $300.

Some models of video recorder and video card (ATI AIW in particular) are overly sensitive to copy protection, others aren't. Your DVD recorder might be. TBC should fix it.

Could you tell me what a TBC is? Where do I get one?

I belive my ILO burner now is down to $98.00 at Walmart. Not shure what other brands they sell but I could trade it in for a better model as it's still new, any thoughts on this? Trying not to spend too much $.
    Thanks in advance.
