    Hi! I was wondering if somebody could help me with this problem;

I am having trouble with burning a dvd movie that is more than 2hour long to a dvd+r disc. I know that discs can only contain 2 hour, but is this the case even tough the VIDEO TS folder is under 4.7GB?

If this is the case, is there anything I can do to make it fit a normal DVD+r disc?

I have noticed that when i burn a DVD movie to a disc that is more than 2 hour long, the end of the movie is F..... up!

    plz help me!

It's movie length x bit rate that determines the final size of the movie. If your VIDEO_TS folder is < 4,700,000,000 bytes (or 4.37GB) then it'll fit a single layer DVDR. If not then it won't. It it doesn't fit then you can use DVDShrink to get it to fit. Check out this tool under the tool section to the left.

When you say the end of the movie is messed up ... does it not play or do you have playback problem (e.g., skipping, freezing, ect.) If the latter, then this is a sympton of poor quality media. It's common to have playback problems past the 4-GB mark with poor quailty media.

I know that there is nothing wrong with Files, because I always have to see the end of the film on my computer.

At the end of the film there is a lot of skipping and freezing and the sound is awful!

It is usually the last 5-15 minutes of the film that is messed up....

Bad media and / or poor burn. What media are you using? What program are you using to burn?

  6. I bought cheap disks early on after first buying my DVD writer. Guess what? You get what you pay for and what I got was the problem you're experiencing. Since I've gone to using the Taiyo Yuden 4X Value disks, I don't have that problem any more, even with movies longer than 2 hours in length. BTW, it isn't the length of the movie that's causing the problem, it's how large the amount of data that you're trying to put on there and the outside edges of the media just can't handle it. Spend a few pennies more and get decent media.

  7. your Video_ts folder should be around 4.31 or so not 4.7 GB needs some room for lead-in lead-out. shrink it a bit

    thanks for all the answers!

but just to make sure one thing, I am not using cheap discs. I am using Verbatim and not the cheapest ones!

And I am probably sure that there is a connection with the length of the movie because I havent had one Burn error when i am burning a DVD movie that`s shorter than 2hours....

but I think I am gonna try to shrink them a bit and see if that helps...

oh, by the way, I have been using Ahead.Nero.Burning.ROM.v6.0.0.15.Ultra.Edition, but I am going to use Nero7 Premium now and see if that makes any different

One more question: Is it bad to burn at 16x? should i rather burn on 8x or 4x?

  11. if the burner is quality and the media is quality and both support 16x? I do it all the time. OTOH my Pioneer 109 doesn't want to burn made in taiwan 16X faster than 12X where it will burn the same brand Made in Japan at 16X. It also burns the FUJI MIJ 8X at 12X with no problems.

These days before buying I look to see where it is made before buying.

    Cheers

One other thing, Look at how much (little) time you save burning at 16X vs 8X. Cheap media 16X may work better at 8X.

Crapping out at the end of the movie + Crappy media. You are simply experiencing the miryad of problems that backing up DVD can produce. You really need to simply read a bunch of the guides as your experience seems to be at newbe level.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!
