I've a Sony DVD-R/CD-RW combo drive in my PC. Since two days, the drive is behaving in a very weird manner. It couldn't detect the data on the DVDs, sometimes, it wouldn't even detect that a DVD media is present.

Recently, after putting a DVD in the drive and opening the DVD drive through "My Computer", this is what I found:

Now, this is weird. How can a DVD's VIDEO_TS folder hold only 16.0KB amount of data. On opening the folder all the files are seen but having a size of 0bytes except the VIDEO_TS.IFO and VIDE_TS.BUP files(each showing 8.00KB size).

None of the players played the movie. I tried Intervideo WinDVD, WMP, Real Player, Media Player Classic, BS Player.

Only VideoLan was able to play the DVD, but only 57 minutes is playing when the total length of the movie is approx. above 3hrs.

Let me tell u beforehand that the DVD isn't a corrupt one, coz it's playing well on DVD player. I played in one of my friend's house. Unfortunately, I've no DVD player. All I've is a PC with a Sony DVD Combo Drive. The problem is there only during it's playback on the PC.

  2. Well, I am not sure, but maybe they are 0 KB because the files are encrypted. For example an audio CD playing well in CD player, but if you access the files through Explorer they are 0 KB size. ifo's and bup's are not encrypted.
About the playing issue - it can be many things. I haven't failed to play a DVD from my combo (no Sony) with MPC so far.
