  1. Hi All,

I'm having the toughest time getting audio to sync on re-encoded movies for an Epson p-2000, and I'm not sure what settings to choose in "Autosize" when it comes to setting the size of video files. I am quite new to ffmpegx, I'm afraid.

I understand that I need to ensure that the video retains its framerate when being re-encoded, but how do I tell what the original frame rate is so that I can ensure that I retain it?

And is that the only thing with which I need to be concerned when trying to get audio to remain in sync with the video?

I am still experimenting to figure out how to ensure that my video dimensions don't get altered for playing on the 640x480 screen of the p-2000 (can I trust what "autosize" parameter comes up when I am working with a video file?)

fyi: for any other Epson p-2000 users out there trying to choose the right _video_ settings (it took a bit of trial and error on my part, and I'd like to save you that annoyance), my video codec is "MPEG4 [.AVI] (mencoder)".

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

    Chas

  2. Normally the original framerate is written in the source "LCD" display which is on the left side of the "Summary" tab. In the case of a DVD, it is almost always NTSC FILM for USA and PAL for Europe. You just have to set 640x480 and not care about autosize. Also try "ffmpeg mpeg-4" just in case.

  3. Thanks for your tips major, sorry to not reply earlier (I wanted to test them out before replying).

fyi: the source movies are of many different types (different codecs, dimensions, data rates, etc), but rarely DVDs.

Unfortunately the sound sync problem is persisting (looks to be the identical misc-sync when encoding with both ffmpeg and mencoder for mpeg-4). I've ensured that I'm using the correct frame rate (thanks for that pointer to the Summary section).

The funny thing is that the sound stays in sync when I view the movies on my desktop systems (all Macs), but goes out of sync when viewed on the Epson p-2000.

Could it be a data rate problem?

Thanks in advance for any further help,

    Chas

ps. 640x480 works for movies that are already in a 4:3 format, but any others get pretty wonky. A little algebra is helping (to figure out what the height is once I resize the width to 640 :-)

  4. Unfortunately I don't know about the Epson device, indeed you could try to lower the datarate to see if it makes any difference, or use XviD.

  5. Well, your advice and time has been most appreciated, I'll continue to experiment :-)

    Best,

    Chas
