    hi,

    i have a Premier DV2010 mpeg4 digital camera, which recoreds ASF files
    this there any way i can make a file from AVI or MPEG2 that will play on
    camera.

    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Virtualdub_1.4c-ASF should open ASF. You could then re-encode to AVI or frameserve to your favorite MPEG encoder.

    FWIW I seem to recall that I read that the latest version of virtualdub reinstated support for ASF. I cannot find where I read that, but it just sticks in my mind for some reason.

    You may be able to use AVISynth also.

    Wrong way around though. They want to convert to ASF to play on the camera not from it right?

    ffmpeg can output ASF and supports MPEG-4. Problem is that the camera doesn't use ISO MPEG-4 I don't think. Still ffmpeg might be ok, otherwise try Windows Media Encoder.

    I really wouldn't call MS MPEG4 in an ASF container MPEG-4.
