HI all,
I've been taking qt movie trailers and been mastering them for DVD for awhile now. I just got QT7 and I seem to have lost my sound. Heres what I've been doing
1. Put the QT file into TMPEGnc and split into ES
2. Take the audio that TMPEGnc outputs and put that into AC3machine
3. Add the new ac3 audio file and the ES video file from TMPEGnc and author with DVDLab.
This used to work with QT6. What am I doing wrong?
I'm mastering the new HD trailers by the way and I think they have 5.1 sound.
Any help would be great!
Thanks
BSR

Can anyone tell me how to get the 5.1 stream out of the quicktime file so i can reencode for DVD?
Thanks

Ok,
one of the major changes in QT7 was the way in which audio was stored. It now officially supports >2 channels per stream/track, whereas before it didn't. There were workarounds in the form of multiple streams/tracks, or in the form of user-defined stream types.
My guess is that the QT reading plugin for TMPGEnc is based on pre-QT7 code which doesn't understand the new structure.
Get QT7 Pro ($29US). Open file in there and export to AC3(if possible), or multichannel AIF/WAV, or AAC or something. Then use appropriate audio app to massage it to be AC3 5.1.
Then use the usual apps from then on.

I have QT 7 pro, but the only export options are AIFF, AU and WAV. It does not say if these are multi channel. I exported a WAV and then put it into AC3machine, but it still put out a 2.0 ac3 file. Can you recommend another audio app that would work better?
Thanks

Do you have Softencode? or Vegas' AC3 encoder? I know those work with multichannel waves. I have a feeling that AC3machine won't accept multichannel waves, but I don't use that app so I'm not sure.
Can you post a short ~5 sec. clip of the exported AIF/WAV?

I don’t have either mentioned app. I’ve been using AC3 machine, because it’s easy and I’m kind of new at this.
Unfortunately, I’m not at a place where I can upload a short clip of the WAV.
Thanks
