    Hey all,

I have a region 2 DVD that I ripped into all region VOB using MTR. I am trying to use Major's Selectable DVD Subtitles guide to add English subtitles to the DVD when i burn it again, but whenever I load the subtitles and the VOB, I do not see the subtitles on the video when I press the Preview button. They also do not play after I actually encode the file. I know the subs are good because I saw their layout and timing through Miyu. They are in .srt format. Any help/tips?

  2. The selectable subtitles are not previewable while encoding. You need to finish encoding and then for example use VLC to preview (also make sure to select the subtitle track from the VLC menus while you play).

Thanks for the help, Major. The reason that I was confused was because of this section of the guide:

Use the "Preview" button to preview and check subtitles sync with the audio track. It is not needed to define a color palette for selectable subtitles (a white default palette will be used). If the subtitles are not in sync, use a program like SubSyncX to sync them.

I'll just encode it and try it now then. Thanks!

  4. Indeed that can be misleading, I was meaning about the "Preview" button in the Filters tab, which previews the source, not the target.

Well I encoded the file and was left with a .mpg that does not have any selectable subtitles (I know that I need a VIDEO_TS to be able to do that). How can I put this file into a VIDEO_TS with the subtitles? I tried to go to the Author function under the Tools menu and author it as a DVD, but each time I try to do so, the printout reads:

    INFO: Locale=C
    INFO: Converting filenames to US-ASCII
INFO: Detected subtitle file format: ssa
INFO: Opened iconv descriptor. *UTF-8* *ISO-8859-1*
    INFO: Read 602 subtitles
ERR: New_Face failed. Maybe the font path is wrong.
Please supply the text font file (Arial.ttf).
    WARN: subtitle font: load_sub_face failed.
    STAT: 0:00:01.000

And then stops. Any help regarding what to do would be appreciated.

  6. Maybe the srt file contains some special characters, try to sanitize it by editing them out.

The subs look fine and don't seem to contain any special characters. Also, I tried to author it again using 2 other subtitle files (both .ssa) and they came up with the same error. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks!

  8. Email me the subtitle file to major4@mac.com

    Major,

Any luck? I haven't heard back from you in a while. Thanks for your help~

  10. The subtitle works fine here. Try to use the "Author" tool to combine it with a MPG file.
