  1. ok, this is probably something simple, but I couldn't find anything about it in the search feature on the site (primarily because I have no idea what keywords to type in order to prevent it from giving me too broad results). I noticed in a lot of guides that Nero Burning Rom 6 is the most commonly used method of burning. I downloaded this program (version 6.6.0.16) to burn some VOB files, but for some reason there is no DVD dropdown menu, it only gives me the CD options (Video CD, Super Video CD, miniDVD, etc). Basically, there is no dropdown menu to switch "CD" to "DVD" as there are in the guides. Why isn't it there? Thanks for any help.

DVD burning is not included in the basic Nero package. Its an extra, got to buy it.

  3. Thanks for the quick response, bendix. I thought it must have been free because some of the guides I was following for AVI-DVD conversions gave links to the free trials of burning programs during the burning step but then when they came to the DVD Video part, it always left me confused.

Well are there any free programs for burning the VIDEO_TS folder available that can produce a reasonable quality? I was trying to do it also with CopytoDVD, but it seemed strange, seeing as the guides tell you to burn only the VIDEO_TS.IFO file, while other burning programs want you to burn the entire VIDEO_TS folder...

I may be wrong here, but I remember when first using Nero, that the menu switch on Nero is not that obvious. You have to click on the field that says CD (on top, above the CD options), and then it gives you a drop-down, CD or DVD. When you select DVD, it then displays the DVD options. That drove me nuts. Don't know if this is true for this particular instance, but I thought I'd put that out there.

  6. i find nero very unuseful. i bought all the plug ins and still it takes too long to make a avi file into a dvd and then burn it... in the end the movie has an error.
