Suggestions On DVD Player

I want to spend $150 to $200 on a DVD player that will play VCD, SVCD, Etc. I am looking for any opinions good or bad on a player. Also do all DVD players play back DVD movies in wide screen causing the black bars on top and bottom of the screen? Will SVCD's burnt with Nero cause this? A salesman told me I would have to buy a wide screen TV to get the black bars to disappear? Thanks.

Pioneer. 2 or three models in your price range and they play everything, find the olwest on-line price, print it out and take it to sears, they will match the price, doing it that way you can get the dv-434 progressive scan for $134.
