In my experience, I've had relatively few issues with either disc. The DVD+R caused some initial trouble in a few older standalone players. I've never had any issues with DVD-R Discs. Both are quite good and I use both depending on which is cheaper.

DVD+R's finalize faster and they can burn faster than DVD-R's. On my Plextor 708, I burn +R media in half the time I do -R media. +R also finalizes faster on the Plextor. My equipment is -R oriented (JVC DR-10 recorder.) Also, no formatting on +R's. Therefore, I would say that "+R's have an edge. Note: This applies only to Plextor drives, as other drives may act differently.

No they don't. Each of them can burn 16x SL or 6x DL.

I've noticed they tend to finalize faster, but I've not seen any faster burning speeds between the two medias. The finalizing for -r's takes anywhere between 10-20 seconds, whereas +r's are done finalizing almost the moment the finalizing message is displayed on screen.

Sorry, but on my Plextor 708 I can burn +r at 8X and -r at only 4X. this is drive specific. What I said for the finalization is also true on this drive. This is drive specific. So, for me +r has an edge.

I tend to think my faster finalization is just something in the nature of the nero software package. I experience the same thing at a friends house. I also rarely see the finalization as 6-8 minutes is too long to just sit and watch a burn. I tend to return long after the burnt is complete.

I am not talking generalities as you are. I am just stating empircal facts which are subject to public verification on my system only. What you are saying is true, but not for my 708.

Quite a few drives are like yours where the + is faster than the - burns. Why that is, perhaps someone else can explain?

  11. It can depend on your DVD writer,I think.
I know that DVD-R is more compatible, but I recently purchased some MCC 03RG20 DVD-R's (16x) and the amount of PIE and PIF was 50x more than the MCC 003 DVD+R's (8x) that I currently use.
I think I'll stick to MCC 003 DVD+R changing bitsetting to DVD-ROM,even if it isn't as compatible.I'd rather lower errors than max compatability. The DVD+R's play on ALL DVD Players I've come across anyway :P
BTW I used DVDDecrypter for burning at 4x for all DVD media.

So basically the general consensus is to use what works for you? That's what I've been saying for quite some time when it relates to manufacturer, type of media, country of origin, etc.

    Pretty much, yes.

Just in general, you'll see more people going for DVD-R because it has an edge over DVD+R.

I use plenty of both. One of my drives does great on TY +R discs, and the other does great on MCC -R discs. So I stock up on both at any given time.
