Your 512mb of ram is the absolute minimum I would use.
You should get a second hd for capturing/encoding. Use one hd for software/os, and second for nothing but data/storage, and put on seperate ide's.
Make sure that your hd is defragged before capturing, and shutdown any unnecessary tasks/processes.
For now, start by shutting down all background tasks, defrag your hd, make sure you have at least 30gb of free space on your hd, and give it another try. IF you still have problems, next step is to try capturing with Huffyuv, or VirtualVCR to see if that makes any difference. If none of those things help, you will need a bigger, faster pc.Rob -

I honestly think you should be able to capture with your current hardware
P4, 1.8GHz, 512Mb Ram, etc. to a VCD resolution.
What are you using for playback? try other software too."To know that we know what we know, and that we don't know what we don't know, that is true knowledge..." -
