I guess I got my free 60GB one just a few months too early. I don't know if I'll actually pony up the money for one of these new ones or just keep using my current 60GB portable hard drive (I hardly ever use it to listen to music). However it would be nice to be able to play video previews of some of the client video I'm carrying on the thing, maybe encode the motion menus and bits like that so they can see what I'm about. Or perhaps just to watch a little porn wherever I want to![]()
What I was surprised to learn is how they made the new one even smaller. But I still don't think it has an FM tuner so it's still not perfect. And at least the prices have come down to match the last gen color ones (I bet people who paid for one of those recently are a little nuts) and now you can get them in black. I wish they'd make more special edition ones though just to spice up their line of players. I had heard Beck was going to have a special edition iPod. If anything the variety would be nice to see.

Or maybe they got a lot of christmas money and decided why not get an ipod?

I'd rather have one of these if I wanted to waste my money 8)

As many have already stated "there will never be a perfect iPod"
I'll pass on this iteration afterall. They dropped FireWire support for the 5G iPods! Forget that garbage then. I'll wait a generation or two and see what comes out next.
I don't understand all the iPod haters. Biggest complaint has always been the price but then when have Apple products ever been priced competitively? It has been a while, and other than maybe the Mac Mini. I like the simplistic look of it and the popularity has caused so many accessories for the thing that you have far more to choose from than most other players.
So since I don't use mine much for playing music other than occasionally: are there any others that have the drive capacity of my 60GB model with the same (or lesser) size, longer battery life, and FireWire support?FB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming -

I guess I am an ipod hater. Mostly just that they are over priced and all over their software is overrated. But I haven't found that is nearly as good.
I live in Seattle and on the bus in the morning everybody and their mom has an ipod.
I remember a few months (summer 2003) right before they caught on huge; about 75% of music videos featured someone wearing an ipod.
I don't like having the exact same thing as everybody else and I don't like silly, expensive, proprietary accessories.
But I am about to break down and get the 60GB. Most likely I will wait for the next big upgrade (hopefully more storage or a bigger screen or it will play more formats or maybe all three)
I just did a search while writing this post. Man, nothing touchs the ipod. Size, storage, video function, battery life, style* and even price. I found that none of the competitors beat the ipod in more than one or two of these categories.
*style doesn't really matter to me and I would rather have something different than everybody else, but the ipod does actually look cooler the other devices (I refrain from calling is just an mp3 player since I would usually use it for other thing a cool thing would be if they struck a deal with Nintendo threw a GBA into the ipod that would actually be better than a PSP, but that is just a crazy dream.)snappy phrase
I don't know what you're talking about. -
Before I got my ipod, I thought they were over hyped and over rated. Then, my cousin, who used to work for me, bought one and brought it to work. He had one of the first generation Belkin FM transmitters, then got an itrip. Soon, we were all listening to his ipod on our radio earmuffs. As I used it more, I sort of fell in love.
What I like the most is that it's easy to use and the features are very functional. It automatically sorts music into playlists based on genre, artists, albums, etc, in addition to custom playlists.
My wife bought me one for Christmas last year and I've been happy with it since. I stepped up from the itrip, to a less silky looking, but stronger FM transmitter. -
I have to get an FM transmitter because that's the only way I can get my iPod to play on my stock stereo head unit. Stupid Subaru had to make the thing built into the dash instead of just a double-DIN stereo like everyone else. Even the internal interfaces that are out wouldn't work unless I wired a physical switch between it and the stock stereo
