  1. Awhile ago I made a dvd out of my own files and when I tried it today i noticed one of the files was out of sync so I decided to rip that file to the HD and resync the A/V, well when I try to open the ripped file in programs like Goldwave, I get a blank bar, when I open it in vdub and try to play it, I get the error no audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source.. Yeah what codec do I need ?

use gspot or avicodec or videoinspector to identify the audio codec.

  3. Just get a bunch of n.a in gspot.

In video inspector mmm it just says mpeg audio 1 layer 1. And the download codec button for it is greyed out because appearantly I already have it installed ? But its not working.

Use the latest GSpot beta (2.52) - it will display more information about VOB/MPEG files.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Ok well I got the beta and it says that for audio I used AC3??? I'm pretty sure I didn't but I do remember installing the codec a while ago ( I reformatted so yeah )
But last night I installed an ac3 codec and its still not working, does it have to be the exact same one that I used ? In gspot its showing that I installed it.

It's quite likely you used AC3 when making your DVD, since it's a staple part of the DVD spec along with PCM (WAV).

Maybe try installing the AC3 ACM Decompressor ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
