Problem is: to successfully play burned DVD project
made in TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6
    on DVD+R DL (Memorex 8.5GB 240min 2.4x).
Writer LG GSA-4163B Super Multi DVD Burner (firmware updated to A105)

Program used to burn it (3 attempts)

Original from TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 (unfinished, error poped up)

InterVideo WinDVD Creator 2 (DVD menu works BUT only half of burned movies can be played, looks like only one layer can be read).

Nero, first made image then burned in (only main menu can be seen but can’t be used, Have to press play on remote control and then jump title by title. Second part of movies plays but they pause every two or three seconds for a very short period of time.

    Please help, any suggestions

From what I have been reading here, the most successful DL burns seem to come from either RecordNowMax or DVD decrypter. Everything else seems to be very hit and miss.

    RN, not RNM
RNM is too old, SL only
Sonic RN is the one for DL

Come on people I need more feed back on DL DVDs Authoring. They are expensive and I can't experiment (already wasted 3 = about $19.99)

Anyone who used DL DVDs for/with DVD authoring post your opinion/results please.

Don't use the Memorex. I have used Verbatim and Fuji and they work great. DVD Author 1.6, LG4163B, Nero 6.6...

Here's a method that will work for you. However, you'll need to get hold of DVDMaestro, PgcEdit and RecordNow 7,2 or 7.3:

Also, for general understanding of DL authoring and burning, read the whole thread:

Can I get away with using just RecordNow 7.3 and compiled (in TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6) project VIDEO_TS folders.
Or it is neccessary to selecte layer break chapter point manualy?

No, if you're using RecordNow 7.3 it's not necessary to select a layer break if you don't care about the exact position of it. If you don't do anything, RN 7.3 will choose the best spot for it and put it automatically (including the important change in IFO file). However, especially if you're really pushing the limits of DVD+R DL capacity, then put as many chapter points into your compile as possible, so one of them can become a layer break spot. Sometimes when you're near maxing out the capacity and don't have enough chapter points or cells - it will be impossible for RN 7.3 to choose that spot (or any other truly DVD9-compliant authoring/mastering program).

I haven't tried doing DL compilations with DVD Author, but if it outputs 100% compatible VIDEO_TS structures (even without the layer break information), and with enough chapter points, RecordNow will do just fine with DL burning. And if it doesn't like something it will tell you that ahead of time. Just try to avoid Ritek-made DVD+R DL's. Either MKM or Ricoh will do fine.
