  1. Hello all,

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder VE card. I use it to capture TV programs using the ATI MMC Application 9.08. When I am watching TV within the program, all is fine. When I capture and watch at the same time, all is fine. But the recorded file's audio is very..um...blurry and distorted. Everything is fine in MMC, though. I connect my box to the purple input connector, connect the purple input connector to the card, and connect the card and my sound card line in. I am capturing in MPEG-2 (DVD) format. I uploaded a sample of what I mean:

I really don't know what is happening and why it is happening. Any suggestions/comments would be appreciate. If you have questions, ask. Thanks.

PS: The DVD decoder software is InterVideo WinDVD.

  5. is Aux the Microphone? - on my sound card I only have 3 inputs:

    Blue - Line In
    Green - Speakers
    Pink - Microphone

I'm not using Tuner, i'm using s-video and the white/red audio cables.

Aux is an internal Connection. Your sound card should have an internal plugin.

It sounds over modulated to me. I would try recording at a lower level.

According to this Photo http://www.firingsquad.com/media/hirez.asp?file=/hardware/ati_all_in_wonder_ve_review/images/01.jpg above the silver tuner is an Audio in plug. You will need to buy an an internal cable to connect from the Video card to the Sound Card.
Photo of sound card.. You will then need to plug the cable into the Aux connection on the Sound card. Hope this helps alittle more. The Cablesholdn't cost more than a few bucks.

  11. Well the photo you have of my card is different from the one I have. The link says AiW VE but my card does not have an Audio in plugin on the card.

Which Card do you have ?

  13. OK, well, if I was having a problem with my sound card, and attempting to get help from others, the first thing I would do is describe, at least in some way, just what exactly kind of sound card I have. That might be helpful.

Also isolate the problem by recording from OTHER inputs, not through the ATI card and/or using a DVD player or other audio source. Your described conditions do not indicate that ANY recording made by the card is of good quality, though none, other than thru TV box and ATI card, has apparently been made.

Standard solutions include - Using Line-in, NOT microphone input, making sure 20db boost is not switched on in Control Panel settings, turning off ALL other inputs to sound card, routing cables around all electrical sources and/or using better cables.

My personal favorite - lower line-in recording level to lowest setting, adjust incoming audio to higher setting to compensate. Test the recorded sound, not the real-time sound, to adjust this. The two are NOT directly related in terms of volume level. What I mean by that is that the Line-in recording level may, or may not, be the same as the playback volume level.

This combo has worked thru 3 or 4 different sound cards, 2 cable and 1 satellite box, and 3 different ATI cards. I would call that a consistent solution.

Every time I have had this problem with an AIW card, it has been solved by removing and reinstalling the drivers.

  15. Capture Card: ATI All-In-Wonder VE
Sound Card: SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
    System: P4 2.8ghz 1024mb RAM

I recorded through Line-In, I HAVE turned off all the other ports.
I've tried recording through other sources that are not the AiW to the line-in, they work perfectly.
I used a DVD player for the source for the AiW, I also used a TV Box, same thing happens.
