I recently totally upgraded my rig (checkout my profile). I installed in it my trusty old pioneer a06 that I spent $170 on a few years ago. The builders of my rig decided I needed a lite version of Nero 6 for the drive, so they installed it. I attempted to remove it, but could not find any uninstall ANYWHERE, so I left if there and then installed the software that came with the a06. Unfortunately I later found that it clobbered the nero 6 and so I installed my trusty copy of nero 5.5 in a different location....are you still with me on this...So I then go and convert a half hour of captured VHS footage, author it and burn it, so far so good. (old 1.6G P4 rig filter and convert time: 165 min, new rig: 45 min!!!). Then it's time to shutdown, and I get a message from windows stating "You have an unfinished volume in your burner, please eject before shutting down" (somewhat paraphrased), which is not true at all. If I burn a CD, no problems, only DVDs cause this. The only way I can get a clean shutdown after burning a DVD is to use the shutdown command. Any ideas on this?...I'm about to punt and reinstall XP...Thanks for bearing with me on this.

Nero hell, yes I am familiar with that.

Go to the Nero site and DL Nero Clean, whichever versions you need.

    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html

Rip out everything that relates to Nero and install a fresh copy. If your burner works with Nero 5.5, stick with that. Stay away from newer versions if possible. Just my opinion.

You probably have conflicting versions installed. Unfortunately Nero doesn't get rid of all the old crap when newer versions are installed.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I went and blasted out all the nero stuff but it did not help. I think something in the drive itself is messed up for it will not automatically close the tray at power up if it was left open at power down (which I discovered on purpose last night). Also, the beginning of the nero verify pass will open the tray and not close it, which it did just fine in days gone by. Oh well... ...can I still use nero 5.5 with a pioneer 110? I don't give a hoot about dual layer.
