Glitches were present as the Sequence played out from the AVID
None of these glitches were visible on the computer screen, but both the sound and picture took "hits" at it output to the DV camcorder..
Any simple solutions???
I'm mystified

No idea what you may have encountered. What are these "hits" you are talking about. No way to guess exactly what you are refering. I have used avid express 4 at work and have had no issues. With PC config are you using on your Avid Express 5? You do know you need a gig of rarm just to run it and a MOJO would be even better.

To output this job, the following workaround was used.
The AVID timeline was exported to DVSTREAM UNCOMPRESSED but to the HARD DRIVE.
The Huge file was placed on the timeline in VEGAS 4.0 (Because we don't have sorenson squeeze) and output to MPEG-2 at highest quality (High VBR). This worked to author a DVD elsewhere.
With a larger project, this won't work..
so. any cluse as to what w makes glitches
and as per your question were running with 768MB ram on a P4 at 2.0GIG
(NO HT)..all the clips play within AVID fine.. What could it be? (The clips were gathered to this computer from the same camcorder) -
At what point did you see glitches? Did Vegas output a good MPG2? Also make sure your Bit rate is not more than 9000 max as this might intruduce playback problems with DVDs due to the player choking.
As to computers, we are running a dual xeon with 2 gigs of ram. Believe it or not, my machine's task manager shows ram usage shoot to about 850 as soon as I load Avid 5 it usually hovers around 200 with XP idleing. My home machine is a 2400 P4 with a gig of ram and that is not strong enough to properly run Avid. You are obviously able to run it so I won't argue with success.
But going back to your problem. Can you tell me at what exact point does the glitches begin? You do something and that's when it begins? Are you authoring a dvd at this point ? What are doing with the output file from Vegas? Please let me know.No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
The glitches are in different locations each time you view the output
(no two copies have glicthes in rhe same spots)
The Vegas MPEG-2 appeared flawed (audio was mis-speeded-while pic was glitchy)..but this is another problem entirely as the
Uncompressed DV file was perfect when played in quicktime from the HARDRIVE..
So Today I an taking the DV file on a hardrive to a quicker, more powerful machine to redo the DVD preparation there.
We'll try to output to DV again soon -
You need more RAM.
You just happened to luck out with being able to run it (at all) with a mere 768MB. AVID specifically says 1GB minimum, and they mean it.

Obvious, it is your PC. AVID is a mother f****R on resources and RAM
