I'm a relative novice...
When I saw this page
http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/nero-up.php
I impulsively decided to update my OEM package 6.6.0.13 to 6.6.6.016
But although the file name there is Nero-6.6.0.16.exe, the file that actually downloads is Nero-7.6.0.16.exe
I installed it (and the other 3 setup programs from that page), and it was a mess. Nero Express didn't burn, Nero Show Time played very slowly and jerkily, etc. I've uninstalled but reckon I still have residual problems.
What version is this please - 6 or 7? Is there a good version newer than my 6.6.0.13 please?
And any basic pointers on how to get back to stability would be much appreciated please. I took a regsitry copy directly before that major update, but restoring it has not got me back to a sweetly running Nero package.

Uninstall your Nero, restart your system, and reinstall it. That always seems to work for me. The latest version is 6.6.0.16 for nero Burning Rom.

Before you install a newer version of Nero, you should clean out the old versions with Nero Clean.

Thanks both. Have the cleaning tool now and will use it shortly.
Any thoughts on what version that download is?

You have chosen "upgrade" not "update".
6.xxx to 6.xxx is update (free)
6.xxx to 7.xxx is upgrade (payment required)
Here are the software versions contained within 6.6.0.16

Agreed, you upgraded to the new "Nero 7" it's in trial mode now. Need to go back and get the "Update for Nero 6".

Thanks both, appreciate the follow-ups. But as you see if you look at that page, these are described as UPDATES, not upgrades. I understand that distinction.
Since the original download, I've discovered another source of 'Nero-6.6.0.16.exe', and it is exactly the same size as 'Nero-7.6.0.16.exe' that I have: 34235626 bytes.
And if you care to try it, you'll see that you'll initially get the familiar message 'You have chosen to open Nero-6.6.0.16.exe', but as soon as the downloading starts a message appears 'Downloading Nero-7.6.0.16.exe'. And that's what ends up in your download folder. (I've just tried it again, with identical results.)
So I conclude it's just a naming slip, albeit a potentially confusing one!
